I love discovering new trends and seeing how they fit into my fashion style. I first heard about steampunk fashion from Tara Moss a few years ago and as it incorporates DIY upcycling and recycling I was intrigued to learn more.
‘The essence of steampunk is homage to vintage fashion with a modern, sassy twist.’ – Google
A style of design and fashion that combines historical elements with anachronistic technological features inspired by science fiction – think 1800s flowing dresses, suits, corsets, top hats and pocket watches. Lots of copper and bronze jewellery and accessories. Lots of DIY fun and upcycling to create your look – would make a great theme for your next fancy dress party!
Last year I met the gorgeous Rosie from Akatonbo who showcased her eclectic jewellery pieces at our Eco-Chic Fashion Pop-Up.
Rosie hand makes original pieces of unique wearable art using predominantly upcycled vintage materials such as watch pieces, dominoes, coins and books.

The new range she’s showcasing at our Eco Chic Fashion Pop-Up this year is the perfect way to add a little ‘steampunk’ to your wardrobe.
So here are my ways to add steampunk your wardrobe this autumn, with a little help from Akatonbo:
#1 Go through your drawers and collect any old watches you have. Chat to Rosie about a custom make wearable piece or choose one from her vast collection. A cute necklace or brooch adds variety to any outfit.
#2 Steampunk cuffs links a great gift for the man in your life, yet again grab a pair for yourself and wear them with your crisp white shirts.
#3 Leather choker – perfect way to add both 90s grunge and steampunk to your style. Put it together with denim or black and you’re set.
In the next few days search in your drawers for those unused watches and bring them along to Rosie next Sunday to the Eco Chic Fashion Pop-Up to see how she can transform them into something beautiful.
Or choose a beautiful piece from her collection starting at prices $20 – $40.
